Installing Your Air Conditioner

Installing split system air conditioners is a very technical processes and not something you should attempt to do unless you have expertise in that area.

You must hire a licensed professional who is suitably qualified to do the job.

Installers must have one of two licenses issued by the Australian Refrigeration Council: Either a Full Refrigeration and Air conditioning (RAC) License or a restricted 'splits' license.

The holder of a limited 'splits' license can install systems up to 18kw in cooling capacity, but they are not licensed to Install multi-head split system air conditioners or service, repair or maintain any split system air conditioner.

These units are quite straight forward to install but it is illegal to connect up the electrical wiring or to commission the air-conditioner. It is best to phone a tradesman to do this for you. In most cases it will probably cost around $400.00 - $550.00 to have the installation checked over, wired and commissioned. This is a small price to pay to stay safe and protect your warranty.
